If you build it, they will come…

All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. Proverbs 16:2

He sees our hearts. We can be motivated to do good things, with love for God, compassion, generosity, and faith…or motives such as pride, ambition, desire for recogition. When the Lord measures our motives He looks for love and obedience. All that we do should proceed from our love for God and for others (1 Cor. 13).

Solomon tells us in 1 Kings 8:17 “Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. 18″But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19 ‘Nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will be born to you, he will build the house for My name.’…

I had a dream, well several actually. For many years I wanted to have a B & B and call it the HHH, with a big H in the middle and 2 smaller H’s on either side using the same center crossing line. Hoover Hospitality House. 6 or 7 rooms only, but a manager’s apartment for Rick and I. We could write in our free time and I could still party up…I love to bake and cook fun stuff. For years we had our ‘block Christmas party’ here in our home. Of course there are only 14 houses on the whole block and most of them have either single folks or a couple. There were a few years where the house across from us had 3 boys, but now there is a new family with 2 boys and girl. Always baked lots of goodies, cookies and a gingerbread house. It would have been fun and work, but work won’t kill me.

Another dream was of a more useful matter. At All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Winter Garden they have ‘Glennan House’. It is a house next to the church proper and is used for a place of prayer during the week. This was a more recent dream. For several years I looked at every place that came up for sale within walking distance of the church here in Lakeland. Too big, too small, too much reno, too $$, nothing just right. The theme ‘build it and they will come’…wasn’t going to happen. Or did it?

While our circumstances are not at all as I had imagined, the Lord has brought to mind. I didn’t have to buy a place to pray, all we had to be was available…and I can always have cookies on hand right where we are. We have time to write and to seek the Lord on behalf of those who walk through the door and those who are far away. God has a funny way of bringing dreams to pass. He has built it and they are coming…
