While reading the daily office today, this scripture jumped off the page. Rick and I both picked up on it.
Luke 7:40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.”
The premise of “Listening to His Voice”, “Listening Still-Learning to Hear”, and “Listening in Our Circumstances” are brought home to me again in this verse. JESUS has something to say to us!!! The Pharisee who invited Jesus to lunch with him wasn’t prepared for what Jesus was going to say and wasn’t happy when Jesus did respond. The Pharisee did not truly know Him, did not regard Him and was doing the popular thing, entertaining a celebrity.
‘Listening’ to Jesus requires something of us. First of all repentance, and for me that is daily and often. My humanity festers with self. It is not about my happiness, or my comfort or my profit. We are created for His glory, to give Him glory with our lives and to share the Gospel. Not only do we need to HEAR Him, but we also need to see Him for who He is. Behold the Lamb-John 1:29, which we read at- http://www.rzim.org/a-slice-of-infinity/
When our spiritual eyes are opened and we BEHOLD the sacrifice for our sin against God, we must choose to ‘Listen’, ‘Obey’, ‘See’ (and as Henry Blackaby in “Experiencing God Day by Day” challenges us almost every day,) ‘Join’ in what God is doing around us and through us by His Spirit in us.
We will have great ‘joy’ and ‘peace’ as we “Listen” and “Obey”.
John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
