Prepared for the Storm

Yesterday I wrote about our ‘sudden storm’. When it comes to weather, if we are paying attention, we can take shelter and prepare. We get hurricanes here in Florida and so most of us weigh the danger with our ability to handle the damage when it’s over. They will come and they do destroy. We board up windows, take loose things like furniture, potted plants and ‘umbrellas’, etc. into buildings or tarp them and tie them down.

Our spiritual life needs to be covered and protected from the storms of this life. There is only one way and He is Jesus. David says in Psalm 73:23 Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.  In Jesus final commission to the disciples before He ascended into heaven in Matthew 28:20…observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
“Observe all that I have commanded”…hmmmm….mom says don’t play in the street…the arm of the railroad crossing comes down across our lane…don’t touch the oven it’s hot….

God’s commands are not hard to understand and if we keep them we are protected and He is with us. We may go through tough circumstances, again He is with us. 1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Our faith in Christ holds us firm and unflappable in the most difficult of circumstances. Last year I sat with my friend until she saw Jesus face to face. Daily we walk with those who are suffering physically, financially, emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually, but as we obey the commands of the Lord to love one another and participate in the body of Christ we help as servants of God those who have ‘circumstances’ on their doorstep and in themselves.
