Today during devotions, reading Experiencing God Day by Day, by Henry Blackaby he talks about “Amalekites”. In the book of 1 Sam. 15:8-9 “King Saul mistakenly thought he could associate with Amalekites and still fulfill the will of the Lord. You may also be hesitant to rid yourself of that which causes you to compromise your obedience to God. Don’t make the same mistake as King Saul. He did not take the Amalekites seriously enough, and it cost him dearly.”
This reminds me that “fence sitting” is dangerous. We are in this world, but not of it. Romans 12:2 tells us “but, do not be conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” We cannot continue in our old way of life, or more importantly our old way of ‘thinking’. If and when you commit your life to Christ, the old things must be left behind and as in the case of Saul in the Old Testament, allowing those ‘old things’ the Amalekites to hang around and influence us, we will lose the battle. The Word of God in 2 Corinthians 6:16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. 17 “Therefore, COME OUT FROM THEIR MIDST AND BE SEPARATE,” says the Lord. “AND DO NOT TOUCH WHAT IS UNCLEAN; And I will welcome you. 18 “And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.
If we continue to do the things we did before we came to Jesus, and maintain the relationships we had before, we are on dangerous ‘spiritual’ ground. We are ‘listening’ to 2 voices and there can only be confusion. LISTENING for the voice of the Lord will become muddled in the din of world we used to know. We cannot sit on the fence. Faith, is one way only, His way, the way of Truth, holiness and separation from the world. Jesus is our prime example. He was in the world, but His closest friends were followers, all except Judas. Judas had his foot in the world, his idol made him lose everything. Each day we make a choice. Can we hear clearly the voice of the Lord? OR are we having trouble understanding or distinguishing His voice because we have not come out from among the “Amalekites” of today’s society?
Come out from among them…step into our Father’s world of peace, forgiveness, joy and provision!
