Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me!
I do realize that adding that ‘exclamation’ point might make, by some stretch of someone’s imagination, the point that I have added to the Word of God, which is forbidden. But I also believe that God meant it and still does. (Revelation 22:19) In Revelation 2:4 we read “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”
When God gave Solomon wisdom, honor, power and wealth, in 1 Kings 3:12 “Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.”
God also told Solomon, 1 Kings 11:11 But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: 2 of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, “Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: “Solomon clave unto these in love. 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father. 7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Moloch, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 8 And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods. 9 And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, 10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the Lord commanded.
Folks, this very day I experienced what I discern in my spirit, as ‘running after false gods’. We cannot practice syncretism. That means when say we are a Christian and practice what belongs to a ‘world religion’. Jesus is the only Savior. God is a jealous God and He will have no part in ‘other gods’ in our life. If we say we are a Christian we must discern and turn from those things which turn our head, our body and heart away from the WORD God has spoken and had written for our benefit. We do not practice the things of this world. God is very clear. NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME! Don’t play with, don’t exercise with them, don’t tease them….stay away from those things that are attached to ‘other gods’.
