I have heard stories throughout my life about missionaries who go to foreign lands. My favorite story is about ‘tea bags’. The first term missionary, throws the bag away after one use. The second term missionary uses the bag 3 or more times and flicks a bug out of the cup, and still drinks it. The third term missionary sees a fly land in the weakest tea ever, picks up the fly and tells it,”spit it out” and finishes their tea.
It came to my attention that this is not just 1st, 2nd and 3rd terms, this is generational. The older generation has lived with less and can deal with circumstances that the 2nd generation is not happy with, but can tolerate. The 3rd generation however has never had to deal with aging and the struggles of life that teach us to chill out a bit. Everyone’s standard is different due to their environment and their age. We become accustomed to ‘our way’ and nothing less will do….AND you know what? It’s perfectly fine. Our sensibilities are ours alone, BUT as Christians there is only ONE thing that must remain constant from youth to old age, rich or poor, male or female…the Word of God!
Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
1 John 4:21 And He has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
