When I read the following Scripture the other morning, I began to ‘make soup’. You know the old commercial, “Is it soup yet?” Well, it’s beginning to look a little more put together today as I read the media posting and hear the news. This world is truly looking for something to sate their thirst, but we, like the woman at the well, are looking for something to make it better, make it work, make it soup! Jesus asked her for a drink, because He was thirsty and the disciples were off getting lunch. He had no bucket to let down into the well, BUT He had direction from the Spirit to ask this woman for a drink. We find out this woman has been looking to fill an emptiness in her life with male companionship, and it was not satisfying. Jesus may have looked just like any other man to her, striking up a relationship.
She got the surprise of her life…hearing the Words of Jesus telling her all her life; shining a mirror of want, need, natural desire that could not satisfy; she “HEARD THE WORDS OF THE LORD.” Her life and the lives of those around her were changed. Her need, her hunger, her thirst was sated with ‘Living Water’ and the ‘Bread of Life’.
Amos 8:11 Behold, the day is coming, says the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the “Words of the Lord.”
We are living in age where we the people, do not want to hear about our sins, which are many. We do not want God’s Words to make us uncomfortable, and they will. If we continue in this way, there will be a serious famine of the Word of the Lord and we will die in our sin, because we no longer hear, listen and obey.
