I don’t know anyone who really enjoys change. It’s okay if someone else has to change their life and work, but don’t mess with mine!!! For many years God was in the process and still is in the process of changing me, changing the life that Rick and I lead daily. We are not the people we were, and not the people we will be. We have served the Lord through all the changes. We moved 16 times in 30 years.
When we move on to a different place in our lives, whether is be a job, a physical condition, or just the passing of time, God is working for our good. Many years ago when we were working in Christian radio we went through a lot of spiritual changes as we saw a living Christ in other bodies of believers. We both knew that there were other Christians beside us; you know different flavors, and began to participate in worship with them as we saw their love of Jesus.
Though we have changed churches in the past and become part of a different body of believers we have found the change was beneficial not only for us, but for those who came under our influence, and that because we continue to lift up Jesus. Today I get to go to a Baptist church for a Thanksgiving dinner with friends I’ve known 30+ years, because we used to work together. I’ve watched their children grow up, get married and have families of their own. One of the friends went to church with me when we were in a different church than either of us is now.
It has become apparent to me that God can be sneaky! Sometimes change comes suddenly, like in the death of a loved one and we must learn a whole new life, leaving everything behind. Then comes the ‘sneaky’ part, because sometimes the change is so gradual we are not even aware that God is changing us. I have a couple of favorite Scriptures that help me through these changes…maybe they will help you. We can either go with it or fight it, but I pray that God will win in your life and mine today.
Romans 12:22 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God.
2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
