Yesterday I talked with a friend, who was not quite happy with folks who always say, “I feel that God led me to do this or that.” The problem in that sentence is not “God led me,” but “I FEEL.” God is leading me IF I am staying close to Him. It is the supernatural outcome of my relationship with Him. This morning it is cold in the house here in Florida. We’ve had a couple of coolish windy days. Not cold enough to turn on the heat, but I am doing laundry and because of the weather inside the house, I just put a hot sheet fresh out of the dryer around my shoulders to warm me up. It was as natural as breathing to comfort my chilled body with that sheet, I didn’t have to think twice about it and there was no emotional feelings involved, although I am happy with the outcome. 🙂
Our relationship with Jesus should be such that we don’t have to “feel” Him leading us. It is His nature to care for our needs and it is His nature to lead us every step we take when we are disciplined in our relationship with Him. If we live by our feelings, we are going to be in serious trouble.
Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you
We should be able to hear the voice of the Lord at all times, at any moment, but we have to be “listening”; just like I was listening to my body crying out for warm, our spirit will cry out to do whatever He is calling us to do. It won’t necessarily be something we want to do. He may lead us like He did Abraham, to go where we don’t know; but we follow…not depending on our feelings. Depend on the Word of God, His faithfulness and maintain a healthy consistent relationship with your maker!
